About Protheo LTD, Electrical Company in Milton Keynes
A local electrical company doing installations, repairs and inspections — with the emphasis on explaining the work rather than talking around it.
Who we are
Protheo LTD is an electrical company working across Milton Keynes and the towns and villages around it. The work splits three ways: installations that add to or replace fixed wiring, repairs where something has failed and needs tracing, and inspections where you need to know the condition of an installation and have it written down.
Customers are a mix of homeowners, landlords and letting agents, and small commercial premises. A domestic call-out for a tripping RCD and a commercial periodic inspection are different jobs, but the approach is the same: find out what is actually going on, say what it will cost, do it properly, and leave the paperwork behind.
How we work
Most people ringing an electrician are in one of two positions. Either something has gone wrong and they want to know how serious it is, or they are planning work and want to know what it involves before committing. Both deserve a straight answer on the phone rather than a visit booked in the hope of selling something.
So the first conversation is about establishing what you are dealing with. If it is something you can check yourself in two minutes, we will tell you that. If it needs testing, we will say what the testing involves and what it costs before it is booked. And if the honest answer is that the job is not urgent and can wait, that is what you will hear.
The things that actually matter on a job
Not slogans — the specific commitments that make the difference between a good experience and a bad one.
A price before we start
You are told what the work costs before it begins. If something is uncovered mid-job that changes it — and on older wiring it sometimes is — we stop and tell you what it means rather than adding it to the bill.
Faults traced, not guessed
Test equipment and a methodical process instead of swapping parts until something changes. It is quicker, it costs you less, and the fault does not come back a fortnight later.
Certificates that follow
Work is tested and the appropriate certificate or report is issued. It matters more than people expect — at sale, at remortgage, at insurance renewal and every time a tenant or agent asks.
Turning up when we say
If something overruns and the time slips, you get a phone call — not silence. Waiting in for a tradesperson who does not appear is the single most common complaint in this industry, and it is avoidable.
Clean work
Dust sheets down, holes made no bigger than they need to be, and the debris taken away. Where chasing or lifting boards is unavoidable, you are told beforehand what will need making good.
Explained in plain English
What the fault was, what was done about it and what — if anything — is worth keeping an eye on. Understanding your own installation makes you a much harder customer to overcharge, here or anywhere else.
Why local matters for electrical work
Milton Keynes has an unusually wide spread of housing ages for a place its size. The grid squares were built out in phases from the late 1960s onwards, so the wiring era changes noticeably from one estate to the next — while Wolverton, Stony Stratford, Bletchley, Newport Pagnell and Olney all pre-date the new city entirely and have building stock going back much further.
That matters in practice. A house in Fishermead or Netherfield is likely to be on an original or first-replacement board with wiring approaching the end of its service life. A Victorian terrace in Wolverton may have been part-rewired twice, with two generations of cable meeting somewhere in the middle. A 2019 house in Whitehouse will already have RCBOs and surge protection, so the question there is capacity for what you want to add, not condition.
Knowing which of those you are looking at before setting off means the right test gear and the right materials come with us, and the quote reflects the actual job rather than an average.
Thinking about buying in Milton Keynes? An EICR before exchange is one of the cheapest pieces of due diligence available on a property. A survey will note that the electrics "appear dated" and recommend further investigation — an inspection tells you specifically what needs doing and roughly what it costs, which is information you can use in a negotiation.
Getting hold of us
The quickest route is the phone — 07411 349903. If it is easier to write it down, or you want to send photos of a fuse board or a fitting, email Gary.theo44@gmail.com. Photos genuinely help: a picture of your consumer unit tells us more in five seconds than five minutes of description.
When you get in touch, it speeds things up if you can say roughly where you are in Milton Keynes, what the property is (house, flat, rented, commercial unit), and what is happening or what you want done.
